About – Sarah Beadle

Sarah is a qualified Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC). Sarah has experience working with children, young people and families both in the NHS and in Children’s Services in the Local Authority. Sarah offers therapy to young people and adults. Sarah can work with a range of mental health difficulties, whether you have a formal diagnosis or not.

Sarah has a passion for working with families and parents. Sessions may involve supporting you to unpick the challenges related to balancing your own needs and supporting you to work out what is getting in the way of living a fulfilled life that feels more manageable. Sessions may involve exploration of different ways to parent whilst ensuring your needs are met alongside support to develop practical skills to apply when things feel particularly tricky.

Sarah also has a passion for working with people who are neurodivergent (Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASC) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)), whether you have a formal diagnosis or not. Sarah enjoys developing a joint understanding of how the traits of or neurodivergent diagnosis may be impacting your life and your identity. She particularly enjoys and has experience in supporting people to develop skills to support the process that many people go through after receiving a diagnosis, and adapting your current skills and wisdom to help you manage difficulties that you may be experiencing.

Therapy descriptions

Talking Therapy

Talking therapy provides a safe and supportive space for individuals to reflect on their thoughts, feelings and behaviours. This can help them gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their patterns and their triggers. As a Clinical Psychologist, Sarah works integratively.

This means that she draws on multiple different theoretical approaches such as CBT, ACT and her thinking is influenced by systemic models (the nature of relationships) and mentalisation based approaches.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), is a well-established evidence-based treatment that has been extensively researched and proved to be effective for a range of mental health difficulties and managing challenges in life. CBT is a short-term treatment that usually involves 10-20 sessions, which makes it more cost-effective than long-term psychotherapy. Your sessions may be CBT informed if this fits the formulation that you and Sarah develop together, based on the challenges that you would like to focus on in therapy.

Acceptance and Committment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a type of psychotherapy that aims to help individuals develop psychological flexibility by accepting their thoughts and feelings while also committing to behaviour that is consistent with their values. ACT utilises mindfulness techniques and various exercises to help individuals observe their thoughts and emotions and detach from them, allowing for the development of a more flexible and effective response to challenges and difficulties in life. ACT is often used to treat anxiety, depression, addictive behaviours and other mental health difficulties.

What happens in a session

Systemic models of therapy view individuals within the context of their relationships and larger systems, such as families and communities. Often the goal of systemic therapy is to improve communication and relationships within these systems. Rather than placing blame on any one individual, systemic therapy focuses on understanding the interconnectedness of relationships and how these systems influence each other. Systemic techniques may involve exploring your family map (genogram), exploring family roles, identifying patterns of interaction and developing new ways of communicating and problem-solving within the system.

In the first session Sarah will ask some questions about your current circumstances. She will start to build a psychological formulation with you; a joint way of making sense of your experiences and difficulties. Your formulation, the evidence base and your preferences will guide which approaches your sessions will draw on.
