Description of therapy
Shiatsu is a system of healing and health maintenance closely related to Acupuncture, using hands instead of needles to treat the body. It combines the great healing properties of human touch with the empirical wisdom accumulated over thousands of years by oriental medicine.
Specific conditions treatable
Shiatsu can treat a wide range of conditions from specific injuries to general symptoms of poor health. It is especially good for all stress related conditions. Common conditions which have been helped by Shiatsu are: back pain, neck and shoulder stiffness, headaches and migraines, joint pain and reduced mobility, menstrual and digestive problems and depression. It also really helps to minimise side effects of chemotherapy, and very useful during pregnancy.
Benefits of therapy
Relaxes mind and body on a deep level; restores and balances energy; eases tension and stiffness; improves posture and flexibility; improves circulation; improves breathing; enhances wellbeing
How it works
Vital energy (Chi) flows throughout the body in a series of channels.
For many different reasons Chi can stop flowing freely, which in turn produces symptoms. By working on specific meridians and points, Shiatsu aims to improve the flow of Chi so that the symptoms associated with the blockages and lack of flow improve. Shiatsu works on physical, mental and spiritual levels.
What happens in a session?
1st session includes taking the client’s case history.
Treatments usually takes place on a futon at floor level (can be adapted if need be). The receiver stays fully clothed. Each treatment starts with a touch diagnosis on the belly area. Depending on the needs of the individual a variety of techniques are used to encourage the smooth flow of Chi throughout the body. These including palm and finger pressure along the channels, gentle holding and when appropriate more dynamic stretches and rotations. Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing experience and treatments build on each other.
