Description of therapy
Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on therapy which assists the body’s natural ability to self repair. This subtle approach does not use manipulation, the therapist makes light contact and uses her hands to tune in to the flow of spinal fluid. Craniosacral therapists are trained to feel this subtle motion in the body and can use it to find where there is congestion and restrictions.
Specific conditions treatable
Suitable for all ages from babies to the elderly, its gentle approach is particularly useful in pregnancy and in treating babies. Restrictions arising during birth may result in colic, suckling problems, breathing difficulties, restlessness and irritability and other left over effects of birth trauma.
CST is effective for a wide range of conditions in children and adolescents as well. Sometimes parents bring their child for a ‘tune-up’ to help them feel better overall and to focus on any minor issues. Childhood and adolescent conditions which have responded well to craniosacral therapy include: Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD/ADD), autism, teeth and jaw mis-alignment, adolescent withdrawal, fears and phobias, bed-wetting and asthma.

Benefits of therapy
Craniosacral therapy improves people's quality of life in general as well as helping with specific problems. It can help you recover from the results of accidents, falls and strains as well as diseases. Psychological and traumatic conditions can also be helped. Cranial work can reduce stress and improve the functioning of the immune system.
How it works
At the core of the body, the cerebrospinal fluid which bathes and cushions the brain and spinal cord expresses a rhythmic movement in a tide-like ebb and flow. In response to physical knocks and emotional stress, the body’s tissues contract and these strains or tensions restrict the body’s functioning and may give rise to problems expressed either as physical symptoms or emotional problems such as anxiety. The Craniosacral touch gently allows the body to let go, easing strains and helping the body back into balance.
What happens in a session?
Sessions take place with the client fully clothed on a couch or seated comfortably. The therapist makes gentle contact, usually at the head and then her hands move to where the body needs assistance to gree a strain or relieve discomfort.
Length of session
Very client-led, session lengths vary from 30 minutes to one hour, depending on the age of the client and conditions being treated.
